About the Author

John Pinel, the author of Biopsychology , obtained his Ph.D. from McGill University in Montreal and worked briefly at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, before taking a faculty position at the University of British Columbia, where he is currently Professor Emeritus. Professor Pinel is an award-winning teacher and the author of over 200 scientific papers. However, he feels that Biopsychology is his major career-related accomplishment. “It ties together everything I love about my job; students, teaching, writing, and research.”

Pinel attributes much of his success to his wife Maggie who is an artist and professional designer. Over the years, they have collaborated on many projects, and the quality of Biopsychology’s illustrations is largely attributable to her skill and effort.

Yes, finally a textbook that is fun and interesting to read!

I loved John P.J. Pinel's Biopsychology textbook. I'm a college student and I find most textbooks boring and difficult to read. I just loved this textbook! The scientific explanations were clearly, understandable. This book really drew me in on how the human brain works. The illustations were awesome! The narratives on behavior were great and lots of fun to read. This book was not wordy either, a problem that I have had with many of the textbooks I've read in the past. I looked forward to reading this book. I wish more textbooks were like these!

Easily Understood

We're using this as a textbook in one of my PhD classes, and this is one of the few textbooks that I have that is written in surprisingly easy language, making everything easily understood. I can say that there are a few concepts that you might need extra help with if you don't have a basic understanding of human biology, genetics, and evolution--though even those topics are relatively well-explained for people who don't have as much experience in those subjects (I would assume). All in all, I would recommend!

Wonderful Book

The book is beautifully put together, over 200 high quality color reproductions of works. There's a thoughtful essay for each artist represented in the book, and the opening essay by Helen Molesworth is very interesting as well. Definitely a great book for anyone interested in 1980s American art and politics.

Reasonable delivery time and excellent condition

Alexander Anievas is an Early Career Leverhulme Fellow at the Department of Political and International Studies, University of Cambridge. He is the author of Capital, the State, and War: Class Conflict and Geopolitics in the Thirty Years’ Crisis, 1914-1945 (University of Michigan Press, 2014) and editor of Marxism and World Politics: Contesting Global Capitalism (Routledge, 2010). He is a member of the editorial collective, Historical Materialism: Research in Critical Marxist Theory.

I believe this is the best pictorial explanation of anatomy I have ever come across

I believe this is the best pictorial explanation of anatomy I have ever come across. I never compared the text of Gray's Anatomy to Clinically Oriented Anatomy but pictures are bigger and much much clearer in this book compared to COA. I believe to use as a reference book for the practice of medicine, as a physician, this is a great book. I apologize that i am not able to evaluate this book from view point of preparation of exams.

Must have for all Anatomy Students

Learn all you need for anatomy in this easy to read well laid out book. Each chapter starts with an overview of whats covered (ie. just the basics) and then proceeds in a compartmental fashion through the limb or system you are studying. The language is clear, lots of colour illustrations and summary tables. In addition there are clinical pearls. Really well written and easy to understand!

Useful but poorly organized

The student consult is helpful and the book contains a lot of useful information, but is poorly organized. Made reading and studying much more difficult than necessary.

The student consult is probably the best part about this book by far. It provides study questions, an electronic copy of the book, and more. I used the student consult many times to assist my learning and think I would have been lost without it. One of my favorite things to do with the electronic book was screenshot the pictures and put them into a review guide document so that I wouldn't have to have the book out to study.

The book has the weirdest organization I've seen for a book. It jumped around a lot within chapters and made things harder to understand. It often took a good bit of searching for me to find the information I was looking for despite it being mentioned briefly pages before. As a student, I was taking more than just an anatomy course, and it was very frustrating to have to spend excess time and energy than should have been required on trying to find the information I needed.

Great Book for Cooking!

Excellent book for cooking hamburger. Many great ideas for those on a budget, especially now in this down economy. My only criticism, which is why it only got 3 stars, is that it was advertised as "New" but it was not. I could tell it had been out of any type of protective wrapper for quite a while and had been on a shelf where it had been taken out and back several times. The slight wear on the edges is unmistakable. The item was shipped in a timely manner.

Good book for the times

With the economy having a great deal more hamburger being brought to the family table, this book fills the bill for adding a great varity of hamburger meals. Time proven and timeless recipes. These times of ours are no longer an age of good grilled steak and baked potato every night, and for those who can still afford $4.00/lb hamburger, this book is the roadmap to some pretty good meals!!
