Great book! Sadly, outdated

This is a great book! It teaches you a lot of the basics of blackjack and gives you information about a lot of casinos in different parts of the world. Sadly, all of the information is outdated. Also, it feels like a grandfather teaching. Story after story after story that the reader might not care about.
On the plus side, the first few chapters about the basics of blackjack is golden, and so is the author's basic strategy. And it does teaches you the high opt I method of counting cards which is not the best one to learn since there's been new methods that's been created since the release of this book.

Read this book if you want to become a better player

As an intermediate Blackjack player, I was looking for that book that would help me become an advanced player. I was not disappointed. Lance Humble's "The World's Greatest Blackjack Book" covers everything you need to know about the game of Blackjack: How to play, Basic Strategy, the Hi-Opt I counting system, among general advice surrounding the game of 21. Just when you thought you knew it all, Mr. Humble shows that you really didn't know as much as you thought you did.

If you're willing to read an entire book on Blackjack, you're probably interested in counting cards. The actual game strategy behind the Hi-Opt I counting system that Mr. Humble proposes actually composes a very small portion of the book. It's simply a matter of grasping the system at first, memorizing the tables, and then putting it into practice. The majority of pages within this book actually offer tips unrelated to actual game strategy such as how to avoid detection by the pit bosses, personal stories, and the differences among casinos. The information on casinos was the only portion of the book I felt was outdated, seeing as how many of the casinos Mr. Humble talks about no longer exist, or have changed their rules since this publication.

If you're strictly looking for information on game strategy, then you could probably find those on online tables. However, reading the entire book can give you a greater understanding of all aspects of the game of Blackjack. This book can give beginners the strong foundation they need to become better players, while advanced players will surely find information within this book that will further improve their game.

If teaching is not in your future plan. Don't buy this book. Please rent. This book is complete torture for me to read. But if you are planning to be a teacher. But the book, I might be great for you to refer to with all the laws and organizations you guys have. I gave it 4 stars because of the look of the textbook.

About the Author

Michael S. Nystulreceived his Ph.D. in counseling from Oregon State University in 1974. He holds the position of Professor Emeritus in the Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology at New Mexico State University. Professor Nystul is a licensed psychologist and school psychologist. He has worked in a variety of clinical settings such as schools, hospitals, community mental health centers, university counseling centers, and private practice. His first position was an elementary and middle school counselor with the Bureau of Indian Affairs in 1970. He continues to be active in the counseling field and currently provides counseling and psychological services in private practice in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Professor Nystul has more than 100 publications, including journal articles, book chapters, and books to his credit. He has three daughters, five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and relies on his wife, Laura, to maintain a sense of balance in life.

About the Author
A. A. Milne was an English novelist and playwright born in 1882. A student of H. G. Wells during public school, Milne went on to study mathematics in Cambridge. During his time there, Milne frequently contributed to the college s student magazine, Granta, and was so successful that he was offered a job at the British humour magazine Punch. Milne s son, Christopher Robin, was born in 1920. After writing a poem for him entitled Teddy Bear, Milne began publishing children s stories about Christopher Robin and his stuffed animals, including his bear, Winnie-the-Pooh. Milne s children s books, Winnie-the-Pooh and The House at Pooh Corner, have since become beloved classics that have been adapted into the famous Disney franchise. Milne died in 1956 at the age of 74.

Vintage British humor

This appears to be a collection of magazine or newspaper columns written around 1912. So if you enjoy dated, "veddy British" humor,it's a pleasant read. The style is similar to some of Agatha Christie's early mysteries; perhaps she enjoyed Milne's writing as well. If you enjoyed the original Pooh stories and haven't been poisoned by Disneyfication, you'll like the gentle satire.

Perfect Synopsis with External Links for more research!

Great synopsis with links to reference/source material. As with any reference/study guide, you should do your "due diligence" and research exam topics in detail. The awesome thing about this book is that they have done the searching for you and point you to the information with the "Further Reading" external links that they provide!

This is not for the newbie network engineer, but as a CCIE that is re-certifying this book is perfect!

Only negative comments:
There are a few obvious typo's (ICMPv3 instead of IGMPv3).
Some over-simplifications within the STP section stating that blocking/listening/learning/forwarding are port states for all STP standards, when 802.1w/s use discarding/learning/forwarding states.

Great Resource!

After burning through the official certification guides, this is exactly what I needed to fill in my knowledge gaps . I appreciate how this guide follows the structure of the blueprint and summarizes the key takeaway points at the end of each chapter. This is a very solid resource, kudos to the author!
