The sixth edition continues to build on the strong foundation of the previous editions. The need for estimators to understand the theory behind quantification is critical and must be fully understood prior to performing any computerized estimating. This underlying premise has been one of the guiding principles that began with Mr. Dagostino and continues with the current author. This edition uses extensive examples and exercises to demonstrate methodology and estimate organization. Estimating is an art that relies heavily on the judgment of the person performing the takeoff. Since the estimate is used throughout the project, the assumptions and methodologies assumed must be documented and organized so subsequent users will have access to this knowledge.

A new feature in this edition is a section of Internet resources at the end of every chapter that addresses quantification. There are website addresses for vendors and trade associations. These resources provide the most up-to-date information on materials and methodology.

This edition contains a CD with WinEst and spreadsheets that were used in the book. These spreadsheets can be used as templates to assist in organizing an estimate. They were created using Excel 2000 and are compatible with other software packages (See Appendix G for more information).

This edition contains a number of commercial and residential drawings in the back of the book. These drawings are included to give the user an appreciation of the "digging" for information that is required to prepare an estimate. The needed information may be found on a number of different sheets and must be accumulated and combined to develop an accurate answer. These drawings are also used as the basis of the exercises found at the end of every chapter.

This was a well thought out book; I was required to purchase it for an Estimating College course, and found it to be self explanatory. This would be an invaluable book for any contractor wanting to improve their estimating abilities, and a must read for general contractors looking to refine their bidding techniques.

This is a masterpiece and deserves as many stars available

I have just completed teaching a four week yoga rogram program entitled "Manifesting Desires" bases upon the poems from SCRIPTUS using Lin Yoga as the frame. There are 450 poems that when read consecutively tell a beautiful story about all of creation and how we all interact with each other. When randomly selected the right message is delivered for what the soul needs to hear at the time. Recite them aloud and let the words resonate within. This is an absolute winner. I just ordered my second round of 10 to give as gifts.
his real name is August Pasarya but many also know him as Julian. Check out his other passion at "Pasarya Museum" . The painting and the poetry speak the same language. His over 30 years of creation is just now finding its way to the world. You will not be disappointed. If you are, I will personally give you double your money back. Enjoy.

A New Way Of Seeing

Scriptus, by Pasarya, is not just a book of ideas, thoughts, and stories expressed poetically. Please do not be misdirected by the simplicity of the words. It often requires 3 readings of the verses in order to grasp the inner psychological meaning. The humor just pops up amidst the seriousness of the subject matter. I find myself remembering and repeating those lines to myself and in doing so, I can recall the message of the entire poem.

We are all thirsty to hear these new myths that Pasarya offers to us. They have touched what is already in me and makes it resonate. When I slow down, not seeking any advantage, that is when this poetry speaks to me deeply of matters of the heart, the mind. I treasure Scriptus and will keep it close by my side.

All of this expressed throughout Scriptus. From the heart of Pasarya's poems
I can read, meditate, and soak in the wisdom, and allow the depth of the words to satiate
my mind and body. I can be revived!! Let these poems form positive attitudes to love and
extend love.
In todays world of literature and art, I see so much vandelism, but not these poems of Pasarya.
Oh, I have found so much freshness here. so dynamic and thought provoking. This book will
become my daily ritual.

Don't buy this book!

Princeton Review obviously hasn't done their homework regarding the new AP Biology curriculum. It still reflects the old AP test format and completely omits entire sections. There is WAY to much emphasis on ecology and not enough on cells. Cell signaling and transduction is heavily emphasized in the new curriculum and this book doesn't even mention it!

I was looking forward to previewing this book and encouraging my AP Biology students to buy it. I will certainly not be recommending this.

Useful as a general biology review, but not for the AP test.

The 2013 edition of this book doesn't at all reflect the changes that have been made to the AP Biology test. This book is almost identical to my 2010 edition of the same book. That means that this book includes a great deal of information that is no longer covered on the AP test, and lacks a great deal of information that is.

For example, the new AP Biology course description states, "Memorization of the names of the phases of mitosis is beyond the scope of the course and the AP Exam." This book teaches you to memorize the phases of mitosis. What it doesn't teach you, though, is that "Cyclins and cyclin-dependent kinases control the cell cycle," which the College Board requires students to know for the AP test.

The "Big Ideas" that are stressed in the AP Biology course and exam description are completely absent from this book. Instead, this book stresses the themes of the old AP test. Also lacking are any tips for how to succeed in the new free-response section of the test. Instead, it prepares you for the old free-response section that no longer exists.

But if you are a college student or general biology teacher looking for a good biology overview, this book is actually quite good. Just don't use it to prepare for the AP test.

Is not updated for the Four Big Ideas

I have been teaching AP biology for four years and was looking forward to this book being released in the hopes that it would be a good review book for the changes that collegeboard has made to the AP Biology test. It is just like all previous review books with no mention of the four big ideas or any other changes to AP bio. I originally bought the book so I would have more conceptual based questions to show my students and was severly disappointed with this book. It even states that there are four essays with equal amounts of time (when in reality, the new test will have two longer questions and a few short answer). Anyway, don't waste your money if you're hoping for an up-to-date book. Just buy a used one. I will be returning this one tomorrow :(

I have used this book for an intro. course and found it to be a reasonable beginner book. Medical Informatics is a broad topic to say the least, and any book attempting to summarize it will suffer from the task.
This book is slightly dated, but has a helpful web site.

Horrible for almost any survivor of a suicide

If you are in a relationship that is failing and about to end it and the other person commits suicide because you are leaving them then buy this book. Otherwise if you truely loved the person who died and are looking for comfort or guidance then this book will not help you. This is one woman's account of her failing marriage and how her husbands suicide affected her and how she was able to pull together to help her children get through the suicide. There is no help for the vast majority of people who truely do love the person who has been tragically taken their lives. It's a selfish view of how one person was able to move on with her life after spending years in a loveless relationship.

Great story

I love dachshunds and interesting architecture so this was perfect for me. I had really never read much about this house; now I would love to go there. The book is advanced for my granddaughter (3)and I think I enjoyed it more than she did. She did enjoy all the things the doxies did. I enjoyed reading more about the history of the house.

Terrific!

I bought this for my 8 year old granddaughter who wants to be an architect. This is a cute story and so informative. She loves Frank Lloyd Wright so needless to say, it's one of her favorites. Her first love is Iggy Peck, the Arcitect.

This is a story about the Franklin Llyod Wright's home "Fallingwater". It's a great book about his architectural style, and how it was created for the owners and their 7 dachshunds. In 1964, the house became a museum open to the public. The proceeds of this book go directly to preserving Fallingwater and supporting its education programs. Definitely more suited to older primary grades.

About the Author
Lew Olson, LMSW, PhD, has been active in the sport of dogs since 1974. She has shown dogs in both performance and conformation events and is currently an American Kennel Club (AKC) and United Kennel Club (UKC) dog show judge. Olson holds a master's degree in social work and a doctorate in natural health. As a graduate student, she worked as a research assistant and continues to research and author articles on dog health and nutrition, with articles in numerous dog publications, including the�Total Rottweiler,�the�Rottweiler Quarterly, Mein Hund, AKC Gazette�Breed Column, and numerous dog newsletters. She has given many seminars on "Feeding Your Dog a Fresh Food Diet" and releases a monthly newsletter, with over 8,000 subscribers, via the B-Naturals website. She also runs the K9Nutrition Yahoo! group and is active on Facebook, where she assists members with questions concerning dog nutrition and health.

Doesn't seem to be a credible source

While this book could be a decent starting point in learning how to feed your dog a raw diet, I didn't feel like I could trust the author's expertise after reading it. Some of her assertions are decidedly unscientific in nature and presentation, such as telling readers to never feed a dog frozen meat because dog's can't digest meat when it's frozen. Nonsense. And telling readers to never feed a dog Pacific salmon due to liver flukes and that these are lethal to dogs. Does she say what liver flukes are and how and why they are lethal to dogs? Nope. Are liver flukes referenced in the index? Nope. Some scientist. On that topic, it comes across as a little sketchy that the author allegedly has a PhD, but nowhere in her book bio, her Amazon bio or another comprehensive bio on the internet does she mention where she obtained this PhD. She does, however, talk about where she got her Bachelor's and where she got her Master's, and that it was in a social science. PhD programs don't usually welcome people with a social science background into a hard science doctoral program because they would generally be lacking the requisite hard science coursework. What PhD talks about their undergrad and Master's programs in their bios and stays silent about their doctoral program? It's all more than a little suspicious. Then there's the constant promotion of a company called B-Naturals and a variety of supplements under the umbrella name Berte's Blend. This company is owned by the author. I don't know if the supplements are any good or not, just that she promotes them endlessly in the book. Personally, I don't have enough faith in her knowledge to try these expensive supplements, and I think there's a possible conflict of interest. She seems to try to avoid mentioning that she is involved in the company. And finally, the book is tremendously repetitive. The book is a bit over 300 pages, but should probably be 200 pages at most, if the repetition was deleted. I am giving this book 2 stars rather than 1 because I think there is enough useful information in the book to get someone started on feeding raw. However, I think that facts should be double checked elsewhere. I am sure that there is lots in this book that is completely accurate, but there is enough suspect material in it that I wouldn't consider it an only source on the topic.

Great book to help you improve your dogs diet

Received on Thursday and didn't want to put it down. Full of great info and very easy to understand. This will help you improve your dogs nutrition and health regardless of whether you feed raw, home cooked or commercial. There are basic recipes that you can modify and she even has specific info for cancer, kidney issue, thyroid, gastric, joint and a few more problems that our dogs suffer from. Dr Olson does have references to her line of supplements but she has been selling these for years and they are high quality. I highly recommend this book if you are looking to improve your dogs health.

A terrific guide for anyone interested in dog nutrition

I’ve been feeding a raw diet to my dogs and cats for about sixteen years and I moderate an email list for local/regional folks who feed raw food or want to start doing so. In addition to sharing suggestions on purchasing foods locally, I always recommend that each new member order Dr. Olson’s book.

There’s a ton of information out there and starting our pets on a raw diet can be a little overwhelming, both from a practical standpoint of how to affordably source and store bulk-purchased products and in trying to determine what and how much to feed all sizes of dogs from a 200-lb mastiff to a 6-pound yorkie, especially for those of us in multiple-pet households. The great thing is – ALL breeds and sizes of dogs can successfully eat a raw diet, and this clearly-written book will show you how to accomplish that easily and with confidence.

Reading this gem of a book distills the important information we need to know, and puts to rest any worries of doing harm to our pets by not buying those “fully balanced” bags and cans of pet food that we’ve been conditioned to feed. This book offers recipes and suggestions for readers who intend to feed a complete raw diet, for readers who want provide home-cooked meals, and for those readers who aren’t quite ready to make the switch, there is information on how and why to add fresh protein to a mostly-kibble diet. Not everyone’s lifestyle can accommodate a switch to all-raw right away and this excellent guide respects that and still provides ways to bolster our pets’ health by enhancing their nutrition.

This updated version of “Raw and Natural Nutrition” is a helpful guide for long-time raw feeders whose dogs may need new or different nutritional support, and stands alone as a clearly written primer for those who are new to feeding a raw diet or still in the “thinking about it” stage.

Unique Take on a Crowded Category

I can't speak with too much authority, as my experience with role playing games is mostly limited to good ol' D+D, but Dungeon Code seems to me to be a unique take on the genera; in fact, it solves a lot of the things I didn't like about D+D.

First, Dungeon Code doesn't get bogged down in minutia. It's not about players and GM's citing rules. The system is based around FUN. The player and GM have a fair amount of latitude to make sure the game is fun and that the rules don't drag things down. This is done more by creating a game framework to play from rather than an endless pool or regulations based on every possible situation.

Second, the combat system is something I've never seen before, but is kind of cool. You roll a lot more dice hoping to get certain numbers that "unlock" your opponent. This is more interesting than the "You miss." "You hit for 10 pts damage." "You miss." kind of thing you find in a lot of roll playing. I don't want to say it's like Farkle or Yahtzee, because it's not, but it has that thrill because lots of dice can be involved and you're looking to get certain numbers. It also has a kind of Risk thing going, whereby as you lose power you get less dice. Overall, I think it's a lot more thrilling system than what I'm used to. It's fast and fluid.

I'm not usually into magic user types, but the magic system is better in this game, too. Rather than have a "book of spells" to pick from, characters have a lot more flexibility to come up with unique spells that fall into broad categories. This way, rather than being limited, the wizard is limited only by his/her imagination. Of course, it gets harder to pull of some spells than others (which allows the GM to keep things in check,) and some spells even come with risk.

Overall, this is a good system for anyone who wants to quickly learn a great role-playing system and get playing right away. It favors people with imagination and the ability to tell a good story. It wouldn't be as interesting to someone who is really into having everything spelled out for them, or having a bible of rules to refer to. Of course, I'm glad, because those aren't the kind of people I'd want to play with anyway!

Ashlock remembers that gaming is supposed to be inexpensive, fun, and favoring good storytellers.
