Book is damaged on outside and it's pretty bad condition

I don't know how to inform the vendor about the status of the book I order. The book is in bad shape but still it can be used for my class. I would like to inform the vendor about the status of the book and I don't want to get into any troubles when I return the book. I try to find the vendor details I don't see it to inform or take pictures and send it to him on the books condition.

I am bit worried if I might be charged for the book cost when I return it.

I got in to a graduate class at the last minute and needed this book immediately. I found a seller with a used copy that was very reasonably priced (for a college text book) and offered a next day delivery option. I paid the ~$18 shipping fee and to my surprise I actually had the book in hand the next day. We've been using mostly the case studies for my class. Just what I needed.

A well-prepared travell

Judging by this book, Pierre Ramond must be somebody who spends more time packing his suitcases than travelling. He must therefore be a very well-prepared and careful traveller. Two-thirds of "Journeys Beyond the Standard Model" is devoted to the Standard Model of fundamental particle interactions. Considerable understanding can be revealed by undertaking the journeys described in Pierre Ramond's book, provided the traveller invests in the Standard Model groundwork excellently surveyed in the book's initial chapters.

Book delivers on its promise

The book gives solid, practical advice for people who wish to conduct microbiology experiments. There are many suggestions for what to study. We made up our own experiment, but we used the techniques for working with agar which I didn't know before reading the book and were better than I could find on the Web.

Why only four stars? The book didn't draw me in beyond what I needed to know.

About the Author
Dr. Julie Knapp, Ph.D., BCBA-D is a Pediatric Neuropsychologist and Board Certified Behavior Analyst-Doctorate. She is Executive Director of the Knapp Center for Childhood Development located in Boardman, OH, which specializes in the diagnosis, neuropsychological assessment and treatment of children with autism spectrum disorders. Dr. Knapp offers an International ABA Program assisting families from other parts of the world to travel to the US for ABA therapy. She offers remote training and supervision on ABA programs through a HIPPA secure website to families across the world who otherwise cannot find local ABA therapy or who wants expert advice on their program. Dr. Knapp is also a Consultant at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital and holds an appointment at Case Western Reserve University. Carolline Turnbull, BA, BCaBA is a Board Certified Associate Behavior Analyst at KidsLink Neurobehavioral Center in Twinsburg, OH. Carolline is a behavior consultant for home and school based consultation and developed a dance class for children ages 3–6 with varying disabilities and their neurotypical peers. She completed her Bachelor's degree in speech pathology and audiology at Kent State University and her course work for her BCaBA at Florida Institute of Technology. Carolline has worked in the area of behavioral management of children and young adults with developmental disabilities for 15 years.

Using important, previously unpublished material and original interviews with a range of individuals, both British and Yemeni, who lived through this defining period of colonial history, Without Glory in Arabia tells the story of the final few years of British rule in Aden and the neighboring Eastern and Western Aden Protectorates. While some view British rule, on the whole, as beneficial to the local population, others insist that very little was achieved. Worse, Britain did not provide a structure of government constitution which met the conflicting needs of Aden and the Protectorate. About the Author

John Ducker was in the British Overseas Civil Service in Aden and the Protectorate from 1960 to 1967, then moved to the World Bank.

Peter Hinchcliffe is an Honorary Fellow of Edinburgh University where he teaches Middle East History and Politics. He was with the British Overseas Civil Service in Aden and the Federation of South Arabia which provides the background to and inspiration for Without Glory in Arabia. His other publications include Jordan: A Hashemite Legacy, Conflicts in the Middle East since 1945.

Maria Holt is a Research Fellow in the Centre for the Study of Democracy, University of Westminster.

An Apprpriate Desceiption of Labour Government in the Mid-Sixties

The closing years of British presence in South Arabia were remarkable for the lack of vision an aptitude on the part of Laour government that came into power in 1964. The authors capture a glimpse of the scale of damage the myobic decision of Wislon's government has caused not only to South Arabia but also to the British reputation as steadfast friends.

The authors, from their prespective, have done a good job of describing the shameful abandonment of friends in Arbia but fail to describe fully the inculcable damage such shameful policies have brought to the people of the Federation of South Arabia and Aden.

On the whole, however, the book is a good read and I find the title is atelescopic summary of the end of the British Empire.

This lavishly produced book attempts to explicate the mysterious allure of 17th-century Dutch genre pictures, which were painted most famously by Johannes Vermeer. Syracuse professor Frantis frames these works in a historical context to demonstrate how audiences of the period would have interpreted them. The author explains how many of the objects portrayed in these works had coded meanings that are lost on modern audiences. For example, birds, oyster shells and cats were widely recognized as symbols of sex, while subject poses that look awkward to contemporary eyes were actually considered the height of dignified comportment by Dutch art patrons. Frantis also traces the history of Holland and the development of its art, arguing that the two are closely linked. His argument is that, as the country became wealthier, the subject matter of its paintings became increasingly refined, changing from satirical portraits of raucous, lazy peasants to elegant images of upper classes at play. In Frantis’s opinion, both portrayals are constructed types, and neither reflects the reality of Dutch life in the 17th century. To back up his thesis, Frantis has done impressive research into the culture of the period, examining its literature, songs, guides of behavior and poems. At the same time, he doesn’t neglect the paintings’ formal elements, deftly analyzing the artists’ influences, color schemes and use of tools like camera obscura. As convincing as Frantis’s interpretation is, it breaks down when applied to the work of two masters, Jan Steen and Vermeer. Wayne Franits is professor of fine arts at Syracuse University. He is the author of several books and many articles and reviews on Dutch art of the Golden Age.

Dutch Seventeenth-Century Genre Painting: Its Stylistic and Thematic Evolution

Franits gives a very thorough and leveled image of Dutch 17th century genre painting. He is careful to represent the various opinions that exist on genre painting and doesn't push his opinions too strongly. The book includes a complete bibliography, in-depth footnotes and a great deal of glossy colour images. This is the best book on genre painting since that of Peter Sutton.

Wayne Franits book is an indispensible publication on 17th-century Dutch genre painting. It is thorough and erudite, yet it is also accessible to the general reader.

A valuable monument of scholarly exploration

This is a suberb study, and one that is beautifully illustrated. I have yet to explore various parts of its readable text. And I haven't yet been able to plough through its critical apparatus. But I'm sure that I will be enlarging my understanding of the paintings it highlights for a long time to come.
